The MARSTA

The MARSTA is the name I have given to my unique martial arts training arena where a number of martial arts co-exist under the same roof.

The MARSTA is an acronym for “Martial Arts Research Study and Training Academy” and I specifically use the word “academy” because what I am promoting by way of my own teachings at The MARSTA is a very high quality of Oriental martial discipline which serves as an educational tool as well as a physical  endeavour.

The arts I teach are Sanshangong (Classical and Traditional Chinese Kungfu), “Young Dragons” (Sanshangong for youngsters), Taijiquan (the complete art-form including strong or mild references to the self-defence or “quan” aspect, and Gongyao (a three-minute meditation exercise based upon Oriental dance themes).

Other martial arts available at The MARSTA include Wingchun Kung Fu (Bruce Lee’s initial practice), Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Chinese Weapons and Xingyi Kung Fu – recently brought to the public’s attention by the amazing Li Lien Jie (Jet Li).

Belly Dance and Flamenco Dance, both of which have strong ties with the Orient) are also taught at The MARSTA.   

Who Is Simon Lailey?

Simon Lailey is a 48 year-old Englishman who has ben practicing, studying and researching the traditional Oriental Martial Arts since 1974.

His studies have taken him to the Far East upon many occasions where he has also lived whilst studying these fascinating disciplines. He has even married into the Oriental ways and so lives his life together with a half-Chinese (Fujianese) and half-Filipina lady named Maricris.

Born in the wrong country and at the wrong time, Simon is more Oriental than most Orientals as he lives the life, culture and Ways of the Asian nations.

Starting out with Okinawan Gojuryu Karate-Do (1974-1994) Simon then switched to Traditional Fujianese (Southern Chinese) Martial Arts which, for the past fifteen years, he has been actively involved with as he continues to walk his endless path.

Simon teaches his skills on a full-time and professional basis as he passes on both his skills and his knowledge to all those that are wise enough to listen.
